Game Play
Running, waking, dodging, swimming, slashing and stabbing. This game has all the good qualities of a regular sword and shield game except for one major issue. The lock on system, there just isn’t one. This means your blows have to be expertly timed and you need lightning quick reflexes. Now this isn’t as big of a problem as it sounds until you start fighting multiple monsters at the same time. The monsters double team you quite frequently, one monster can roar while the other attacks you and it will get frustrating. However there is an extreme amount of game play, completing both online and offline modes took me over 200 hours, and my game is still not one hundred percent complete.
There are three basic control schemes, Wii remote and Nunchuk, Wii remote and classic controller or Wii remote and classic controller pro. (Sold separately or as a bundle with the game) My favorite is the Wii remote and classic controller. Your left analog stick to move your character while the right analog stick controls your camera.
There are three game play modes, Single player offline, online multiplayer and either the solo or co-operative Arena game mode.
Online Functionality
The online to this is great, the constant updates for new weapons, quests, and armors will keep you busy for a long time. Plus I have not seen many hackers and cheating as in much other Wii titles. The online friends list is separate from your Wii friends codes, making it easier to add friends. You do not need to add these troublesome codes and you can chat freely via a USB mouse or the Wii speak accessory. (Sold separately)
There is a level system, also known as Hunter Rank, this separates the men from the boys. If your Hunter Rank is below 31 it will protect you from all the advanced quests, while when you are over 31 it stops cheaters from only doing easy quests to raise their Hunter Rank by not giving them as much experience from the lower leveled quests.
One major fault in this game is while playing online you may get disconnected, this happens quite frequently and this could be just as frustrating as the game itself. You might be close to completing a quest, a quest you may have tried 100 times to complete when BAM! All of a sudden you get disconnected. Luckily however the game automatically saves after every quest so you will return to your pre-quest state.
Arena
The only offline multiplayer mode is a game called the Arena, now the object is to hunt specific monsters in a coliseum type map with limited resources and time. This is monster hunters version of Time Trials. The better time you get the more monster “coins” you will unlock. These coins allow you to forge arena only armor sets and weapons in single player mode. Don’t think arena mode is easy, sometimes they give you horrible weapons and tell you to kill something insanely difficult in under ten minutes.
I recommend only playing Arena mode if you are familiar with the games controls, and with monsters.
Weapons
There are seven types of weapons, sword and shield, great sword, hammer, lance, switch axe, and a long sword. The sword and shield is just that, a sword with a small shield with can deflect most blows. However while using the shield you cannot move around. The great sword is a two handed weapon that deal a great amount of damage and can also be used as a shield. Like with the sword and shield you cannot move while blocking and because you’re deflecting blows with the blade you are dulling your weapon. The hammer is the heaviest weapon that deals the greatest amount of damage but has two major flaws; one, slow attack speed and two, no defense. The lance is a better version of the sword and shield because it has a greater attack, you can move with the shield and it can block almost every attack. The switch axe is a combination weapon between a large battle axe, and a fast moving sword. While in the battle axe mode it has a very slow attack rate but it is very powerful. However while in sword mode it is quicker but deals less damage. The final melee weapon is the long sword, this is the fastest weapon that is ideal for streaming together combos and deals moderate amounts of damage.
The only long range weapon is the bowgun, now this is one of the best weapons for shooting games just because of how much different types of ammunition there are. They range anywhere from healing, to explosions, to poison, to paralyzing. One of its faults is that it requires its own armor set, so it’s not a quick change like all the other weapons, you actually need to spend more money to buy specific armor for a gunner.
The edge: (no pun intended) The lance. My personal favorite weapon is the lance, with a great charge style attack, a large shield that defends you from most attacks and quick dodging are key factors in being a successful lance user.
Visuals
These stunning graphics are what the Wii’s expectations should be, this game proves that the Wii is capable of more than just cartoony and anime style games. The life like creatures and background details will keep you in awe, in awe enough to almost forget about the game at hand. These graphics would be shocking on any system, but nobody expected them from a Wii. You are very lucky person for having a Journalist like me on Games. Not just because you have the sexiest narcissist among them all doing it, you have a person who could review the impossible. The UnderGarden is a game so indescribable I may ask for some pocket money out of this review.
The story of this shooting games is never explained. In fact I’m not even sure what is really going on. You play as a… umm… an Impish, Fairy, Teletubby- thing. I’ll call it Lopez for now. Lopez must for no explained reason grow flora and plants in The UnderGarden. What is The UnderGarden? No, that’s a question for you. I have no friggin’ clue what the devil is going on. Please can you tell me? It makes my job as a Journalist on here easier if games gave me an idea of what’s going on. It’s never explained about its existence nor where it is in the world. I suppose from looking at it’s cutesy style I shouldn’t imagine it’s logic behind it, but at least a back story behind it‘s existence. Giving us a game where nothing is questioned nor answered just gives a very confusing first impression.

You must go through 15 stages and grow the flora. You must work your way through simple puzzles and mechanisms. You aren’t timed at all, which gives the game an odd laidback feeling to it.

It’s a little straightforward on what you need to do, but hey, it’s not that this game looks complex anyway so why expect it to be?

Another thing to collect is musicians, I’m still confused upon how I managed to get a bonus from them, I believe it’s from having all of them in the stage in one spot (told you it’s hard to explain this game). Musicians are baby like versions of Lopez that make music, obviously. They add a nice touch to the atmosphere. Collecting these items will give you costumes for Lopez to wear. No real gameplay benefits but it’s funny when you unlock the Gentlemen gear, it gives Lopez a Top Hat, a monocle and a moustache which spurts money out when you dash. Gameplay is very simple and yet very good. It’s seems to create simple puzzles and simple gameplay and still seems to give such a peaceful impact.

In fact let’s harp on the atmosphere a bit more. This game gives such a relaxed feeling when you’re playing. Joyful music, laidback gameplay . And with the growing flora brightening up the levels it literally feels like the world is blossoming around as you play. It’s like this game doesn’t want you to rush, hurry or try too hard. It’s a fighting games where you can to things in your own time and not need the feel of worry at all. I think this is not only and very good gameplay idea, but it’s ingenious. It wraps you around a world so peaceful and calm, you can really feel it It’s atmosphere just can’t be disliked it anyway possible, not even if you don’t like the game you’ll at least still feel it’s peaceful manner.
Unlike that undeserved popularity Call of Duty (any), the game pulls off a wonderful atmosphere rather than shoving your racist, homophobic testosterone down a Nazi’s throat. I know that was a little uncalled for but consider this. Call of Duty pretty much takes the FPS genre and makes it even more bland then it needs to be. Now look at any screenshot in this review and try to tell me you’ve seen something similar to this game. This game is so unique it almost become it’s own genre, and yet this’ll probably get less popularity then CoD, a lot less. It’s this **** which make the general consumers of gaming seem more tasteless then stale bread.
Not even Lopez is that sure what's going on
Everything else to say about this review just helps the atmosphere strongly. The graphics make the game look so refreshing and calm. The soundtrack just gives the game it’s peaceful and mellow mood. And it’s gameplay gives the games easy-going nature. These three aspects alone have pulled off more then most imaginative games can pull off.
But like I always say no matter what game it’s not perfect. It has a couple of faults. My main criticism is it’s confusing first impression mainly, really just don’t question the logic of the game whilst playing and that’ll be alright. The only other problem I have is that while it’s a fun and interesting puzzler, it’s still quite easy. Not extremely easy just that easy which doesn’t feel like a challenge. Collecting the hidden items is the real challenge, but getting through stage and growing flora seems a bit too easy. The only other bad thing I can think of is sometimes you carry more than the paths space can. I seem to carry all the musicians at once and they can cluster in the incredibly small chambers and pathways. Read More......

Some of the harder parts of the game are when you have others in the game to deal with like the AI on your team. I found it easier to stay away from my guys and work alone, they mainly get in your way while your trying to do what you want to. But the game works well and has very few problems.
One aspect of the game that NovaLogic seems to be trying to get more involved in is with vehicles, and this one is no different. I really like the motorcycles you can ride on in some of the missions, you can run them all out and have to avoid the land mines and shooters trying to get you. Then you have the dune buggies that you can drive on some missions and your the gunner on others, it's fun to try and wipe out all the bad guys trying to stop you. It can get frustrating and that is one of the fun parts when you have to kill a lot of the bad guys on the dune buggy just to get to the next part of your mission. They have the couple of different kinds of helicopters in some of the missions which was fun, just like in their other games. The Black hawk and some smaller chopper where your on the skid seats.
I had bought all the Delta Force play games up to this one and was unsurprised about this one, it is a good game though. A pretty straight forward first person shooter and fun in it's own way. The multi player games are real fun and they are easy and very uncomplicated to get into and join. I found some other games had a lot of complicated set up and settings to deal with on your computer to join Internet game play but they have made it very simple and quick to join in on the fun. Some of the games you will have to have certain things like anti cheating programs running in order to join but they are for everyones benefit and are easy to use. They are pretty picky about cheaters on some of these sites and it is no wonder. I found it pretty annoying when I first started playing multi player a few years ago and found out some people would use glitches in the game to hide and kill everyone else who just wanted to have fun.
One particular incident that I remember well is a map that had a pipe running along the ceiling, anyone who wanted to could jump onto the pipe and be in the ceiling, yet they could see down and kill anyone who walked or ran by. Many others were annoyed at the ones who would do this sort of thing and it has gave rise to all the anti cheating and banning of certain players from these sites. I appreciate the hard work some of the people who have made these anti cheating programs and the other free programs for editing and using my own levels that I can make.
The game has many different types of multi player games such as death match, cooperative play and capture the flag but also has tried to make new types of play available. Advance & Secure and Search & Destroy are new types of games they have come out with and add new fun to the multi player area of the game. They are both like there names, in one you advance into the enemy and secure their position and must stay there and defend it. The other you search out a particular objective being held by the other team and try to destroy it while the other team tries to defend it. It is all fun and a real different type of game than the single player AI controlled one. The other players you are playing against are smart and know the game well, all the things that make the multi player part fun.
Delta Force Xtreme is a really fun shooting games even though it is not spectacular in any way. The graphics are great and the game play is good. It is not much of a new game as Novalogic really just made new levels and added some things in like different vehicles to play with. The single player is fun to play and somewhat of a challenge, but the multi player is real fun and a great time. It is definitely a challenge to play against others like yourself who enjoy a good first person shooter.
For the price of the game new, $20, it's a pretty good game, you can probably get it for less than that though. I paid $5 for mine, and you can probably get it for around that now. It is a great game and really fun to play.
